300 combat hours over Iraq, Afghanistan, and Serbia. General Carpenter is a
command pilot with more than 4,200 flying hours in the B-52, T-37, and T-38. He and
his crew were the recipient of the Mackay Trophy for the most meritorious flight of the

The Carpenter’s retired from the Air Force in 2011 after 33 years of service and were
selected as a Chick-fil-A Owner/Operator. He and Melissa opened their Chick-fil-A
store in San Antonio, four miles from Lackland Air Force Base and have grown the
business from $3M in 2013 to $14M in 2023. In 2017 they fed first responders at the
church shooting in Sutherland Springs and in 2022, they sadly took their Chick-fil-A food
